Jessica now gives back to the organisation by volunteering as an interviewer during the initial selection stages and as an industry mentor for successful recipients.
As part of the scheme, each awardee is supported through their A levels or equivalent qualifications in a variety of different ways including careers advice and help with their studies from their personal mentor, as well as valuable hands-on work experience opportunities.
Sponsorship enables each student to be provided with financial help towards materials for their final year design project, text books or to pay for relevant technical courses or summer schools. Their school is also awarded a sum to go towards specialised equipment, materials or teacher training to aid the delivery of STEM subjects for students.
Reflecting on her student days, Jessica said, "Receiving my Arkwright Engineering Scholarship in my GCSE year was a huge achievement. It gave me a valuable insight into the world of engineering and presented me with some exciting career options that I could pursue. The scholarship inspired me to choose the relevant A Levels and, without it, I'm not sure whether my career would have worked out as it has."
