17 Broadwick Street makes award shortlists

The impressive 17 Broadwick Street, with its striking curved roof, has been shortlisted for two awards following a major refurbishment.

The iconic Soho building is among the final contenders in the Refurbishment Project of the Year category for the Building Awards 2022. It has also made the shortlist for Project of the Year up to £10 million in the National Building and Construction Awards 2022. Both award ceremonies will beheld in November.

Originally designed by eminent architect Richard Rogers and known as the Ingeni Building, the recent works were led by Hale Brown Architects who were inspired by Rogers’ early concept drawings. Evolve was appointed to provide structural engineering services for the project which was aimed at increasing the internal office space while significantly reconfiguring and updating the existing building.

Works included the creation of a new seventh floor office space by relocating the existing rooftop plant to increase the overall office footprint. Extending into the existing double-height roof space with a cantilevering mezzanine helped to reinstate the original design concept and create a wonderful duplex floor overlooking Soho.  The highly engineered curved roof had dramatic rooflights installed to introduce more natural light, with two new roof terraces also cut into the curved roof. An additional roof terrace was added at seventh floor level while the existing panoramic glazed lift was extended to serve the new floor.
