Solution
The post-tensioned RC frame CAD was modeled in Revit, whilst the complicated steel work cladding substructure was again modelled using SCIA Engineer in tandem. This allowed us to carry out design checks on the steel work as the frame progressed, and when we were sufficiently happy with the design, were able to import this directly and combine it with our RC Revit model. This saved a significant amount of time and effort and avoided having to redraw what had already been designed. The Revit model also proved an invaluable tool for presenting the structural proposals to the Client and Tendering Contractors.
The original site housed a clothing manufacturer’s distribution centre, which is to be demolished as part of the proposals. There is substantial vehicle parking provision around the new building and an extensive SuDS drainage scheme with associated source control attenuation is provided for this increase in impermeable area and the limited outfall from site.
